JPSC Exam Row: Former Chairman L Khiangte Arrested By Jharkhand CID Amid Student Protests In Ranchi

Ranchi: Amidst the student protest march in Rachi, Jharkhand CID on Monday has arrested former PSC Chairman L Khiangte for his alleged role in JPSC and JSSC job scams. He resigned on July 22, following raids by the CID in connection with the JPSC exam scam. At the time, L. Khangyate stated that he wanted an impartial investigation into the matter, and therefore, he was resigning.

Did Jharkhand CID question Khiangte?

Before his arrest, Khiangte had faced multiple rounds of intensive questioning by the Jharkhand CID. The questioning reportedly lasted several hours as investigators examined the allegations linked to the examination process.

The Jharkhand CID questioned former JPSC chairman L Khiangte for nearly seven hours as part of its investigation into alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the commission, while also conducting raids at 18 locations across the state.

An official said L Khiangte appeared before CID officials around 11 am and left the agency's office around 6 pm; this was the fourth round of questioning in the case.

What is the role of Khiangte?

L Khiangte was a key figure in the JPSC exam rigging scandal. He is accused of selecting a previously blacklisted company, TDPL, to conduct the JPSC's 14th Civil Services Examination.

The protesting students are demanding that all examinations conducted by the blacklisted company TDPL be cancelled.

What are the allegations against Khiangte? 

L Khiangte is accused of awarding the contract for conducting several Jharkhand examinations to a company called TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL). Surprisingly, this company was blacklisted by another Jharkhand agency, the JSSC, due to irregularities. It is alleged that this agency was selected without a background check or deliberately.

TDPL's marketing manager, Abhay Tiwari, has claimed that Khiangte demanded Rs 2 crore and a 20 per cent commission on all payments in exchange for awarding the contract to the agency. However, these are mere allegations. The Jharkhand CID has not yet commented on this matter.
