Kharge's BJP is terrorist party: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge fiercely countered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent claim that the opposition party is controlled by "urban naxals." Addressing a gathering on Saturday, Kharge rejected Modi’s accusation and instead launched a strong critique of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of enabling violence against Scheduled Castes (SCs) and tribal communities.

Kharge blasts BJP for violence against marginalized communities

In his speech, Kharge accused the BJP of fostering terrorism and allowing acts of mob violence to flourish. He stated, "Progressive people are being branded as Urban Naxals by the Prime Minister. This is his regular habit. However, it is the BJP that acts like a terrorist organization. They engage in lynching, assault people, urinate in the mouths of Scheduled Caste members, and rape tribals." He went on to allege that the BJP not only tolerates these heinous acts but actively supports those responsible for them.

BJP’s role in escalating atrocities, says Kharge

Kharge also claimed that the rise in atrocities against SCs and tribals is closely linked to the BJP's governance. “Wherever the BJP is in power, atrocities against Scheduled Castes and tribals escalate. Then they shift the blame onto others. It’s his government, and he has the power to stop it if he truly wanted to," Kharge said, referring to PM Modi’s administration.

Modi-led BJP's stand of 'urban naxals'

Kharge’s comments were a direct response to Modi’s earlier remarks made during a rally in Jammu on September 28. During the rally, Modi accused Congress of being influenced by "Urban Naxal sympathisers" and aligning with foreign infiltrators for electoral advantages. Modi's statements were seen as part of his broader narrative to criticize Congress ahead of the 2024 general elections.

BJP's response to Kharge’s remarks

Reacting to Kharge’s strong words, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla dismissed the Congress leader’s comments as an insult to the Indian electorate. “Crores of people have voted for the BJP in 2014, 2019, and they will again in 2024. Kharge’s statements are an insult to the wisdom of Indian voters,” Poonawalla said.

He further accused Congress of habitual disrespect, stating, “Congress has made it a practice to abuse the electorate. They have called the public 'Rakshasi' and are now implying that voters are electing terrorists. They are also continuously using derogatory language to abuse PM Modi, the OBC community, and the public at large."

Poonawalla also accused Congress of being anti-Dalit, saying, “This is the character and DNA of Congress. They provided SC/ST reservations to Muslims at Jamia and AMU. Congress is the most anti-Dalit party.”
