Kokilaben Ambani, mother of industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani, was airlifted to Mumbai’s HN Reliance Hospital on Friday morning after her health suddenly deteriorated. The 90-year-old, who is also the wife of Reliance Industries founder, the late Dhirubhai Ambani, is currently under strict medical supervision. While the family has not yet issued an official statement, visuals of Ambani family members arriving at the hospital have surfaced on social media, adding to concerns about her condition.
Born on February 24, 1934, in Jamnagar, Gujarat, Kokilaben Ambani is widely regarded as the matriarch of the Ambani family. She is respected not only as the wife of the late Dhirubhai Ambani, founder of Reliance Industries, but also for her role in guiding and supporting the family during changing times. She has played a key role in keeping the family united.
Following the death of Dhirubhai Ambani in 2002, his sons Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani went their separate ways. Dhirubhai Ambani passed away without leaving a will, which strained the relationship between the brothers, who were once very close. At that time, Kokilaben handled the situation, worked out a solution, and oversaw the division of the business. Later, the relationship between the two brothers began to improve. As part of the division, Mukesh Ambani took charge of petrochemicals, oil and gas, refining, and textiles. Anil Ambani, on the other hand, was given businesses related to financial services, power, entertainment, and telecom. While in 2020, Anil Ambani declared that his net worth had become zero; Mukesh steadily expanded his business with foresight and today remains among the world’s richest individuals. However, with new contracts and projects, shares of Anil Ambani’s companies have also started rising, improving his financial condition as well.
Kokilaben has also been actively involved in large-scale social service work. Mumbai’s multi-speciality Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital has been named after her. This stands as a testament to her responsibility and commitment toward social welfare.
