Kolkata gang rape case: New reports say that victim's body has several bite marks – 3 arrested (Social Media)
A woman was gang-raped inside the college campus in the security guard room. Police arrested the three accused in the case, including two students and a student wing leader. New reports are revealing more details how accused raped the student and this incident has sparked political debate between ruling government and opposition where opposition attacked ruling party to take full responsibility.
Three men were arrested on June 26. They are:
Monojot Mishra (31) – the prime accused – was an alumnus of the law college and currently employed in the institution as a contractual staffer, while he was a Trinamool Chhatra Parishad leader during his time as a student.
2. Zaib Ahmed (19) – a current law student
3. Pramit Mukherjee (20) – a senior rape survivor and a current law student.
The women arrived at college around 12pm on Wednesday to fill out the examination-related forms. She initially sat inside the student union room around 4pm on Wednesday, after which she was lured into an empty security guard's room where they raped her between 7:30pm and 10:50pm.
Police said Mishra brutally raped the women in the guard room while the other two locked the gate from outside and waited. They even recorded the act to threaten the women by leaking those videos if she didn't cooperate. She even attempted to escape and tried to fight back, but the accused tried to hit her with a hockey stick.
According to the medical examination report,
Evidence of bite marks, nail scratches and forceful penetration were found on her body.
Trinamool Congress leader Trinankur Bhattacharya expressed deep shock over the incident, admitting that the party never expected someone like Monojit to be involved in such a horrific crime, but later he added that he would be given strict punishment for his heinous act.
He admitted and said, "We admit that it was a mistake that we included such a student leader in our party who would commit this crime. He was not even holding any main post in the student wing." Bhattarcharya cleared out that the party has no links with the accused.
This case has sparked political debate between the ruling party and the opposition. The TMC stated that justice will be given in a statement on X, in which the ruling party focused on the fact that justice will be given to the women, ensuring the most severe measures are imposed on those found guilty."
BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya shared the series of photos of Mishra with Trinamool leaders, which includes Abhishek Banerjee, who is an MP and the nephew of Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee of Trinamool. But TMC stated that pictures shared by BJP were taken from the "social event" and said it had no links with the accused.
Suvendu Adhikari attacked the ruling party and city police to take full responsibility for the incident. He added that the entire Kolkata police have been taken to Digha for the Rath Yatra. and asked, What is Kolkata police even doing there? and asking CM to take full responsibility said that Chief Minister has no right to be in her chair.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) demandsimmediate action on the incident from Kolkata CP (crime) Rupesh Kumar.
