New Delhi: An encounter took place between security forces and terrorists on Saturday in Upper Yusmarg area of Budgam district in central Kashmir of Jammu and Kashmir. In this encounter, Pakistan-affiliated Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Yasir was killed. According to sources, joint security forces had started a search operation in the area on the basis of intelligence, after which there was a face-off with the terrorists.
According to sources, after receiving information about the presence of terrorists, security forces started an intelligence-based search operation in the upper areas of Yusmarg. A joint team of Special Forces and 53 Rashtriya Rifles was involved in this operation. During the search operation, the terrorists opened fire on the security forces, after which an encounter started between the two sides.
Yasir, a resident of Pakistan, is said to be the commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba. According to sources, he was part of the senior Sulaiman Musa group of Lashkar. However, about a year ago he had separated from this group and after that he was carrying out his activities in a different manner. According to security agencies, after the separation, Yasir had emerged as a key Lashkar operative in the Yusmarg area.
Sources said that security agencies were keeping an eye on Yasir's activities and tracking his movements. After receiving information about his presence in the high altitude areas of Yusmarg, security forces started a search operation. During this operation, security forces encountered terrorists and Yasir was killed in the encounter.
After the killing of Yasir, security agencies have started investigating his network and contacts. Agencies are trying to find out what his connections were with other Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives and for how long he was active in Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from this, his possible role in planning, carrying out or providing any kind of help to the terrorist activities that have come to light in recent times is also being investigated.
This encounter in Yusmarg is part of the ongoing anti-terrorist operation by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Security agencies are constantly keeping an eye on the networks of terrorists and their activities. After the killing of Yasir, the agencies will also focus on obtaining information related to his contacts and network.
