Capital on Edge: Delhi on High Alert as Intelligence Warns of Possible Terror Threat (X)
New Delhi: The national capital Delhi has been put on high alert following intelligence inputs. According to security agencies, the risk of possible terrorist attack has increased in the capital, especially crowded religious and historical places have been warned to be targeted. After this input, Delhi Police and security forces have started strict checking of vehicles, people and sensitive places to prevent any untoward incident. In fact, this step has been taken amidst the experience of old blasts and threats.
According to the latest inputs from intelligence agencies, terrorist groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba may be planning to carry out terror activities in the capital and under this there is a plan to attack sensitive places. These areas include important places like Red Fort and Chandni Chowk, which are always full of crowd and hence their security is being taken very seriously.
According to sources, special surveillance is being kept on every vehicle entering Delhi. Vehicles are being searched, number plates and identity of drivers is being ensured. Police have deployed CCTV surveillance, special scanner teams and bomb disposal squads to immediately stop any suspicious vehicle or person. Also, every incoming vehicle is being checked at check posts.
Intelligence sources have warned that if an attack is planned, it could target the most crowded areas. Red Fort, Chandni Chowk and the surrounding major temples are important from cultural and religious point of view and these areas are always visited by a large number of people. Therefore, security has been further tightened at these places.
Delhi Police, bomb disposal squad (BSF/NSG), dog squad and quick reaction teams are deployed in the city. Not only has road checking been increased, but the level of security has also been kept high at railway stations, metro stations and major markets so that any suspicious activity can be detected immediately.
Officials are making it clear that the situation is under control and people do not need to panic but are being advised to remain alert. If anyone sees any suspicious person, bag or object, instructions have been given to inform the police immediately so that any danger can be averted in time.
The process of taking necessary steps is going on based on the information being collected by the security agencies. The local administration and police are continuously reviewing and strengthening the security arrangements at the respective places. The general public has been appealed to be cautious in their travel plans and in crowded areas.
This alert is part of the broader security measures that have been continued from earlier measures taken in view of the terrorist threat. Even before increasing security in the capital, security agencies had taken timely steps in many crisis situations, due to which many attempts had been foiled.
