UP Man Attacks Girlfriend’s Mother with Axe After Her Suicide

A man in Lucknow, upset over his girlfriend’s death, allegedly attacked her mother with an axe on Saturday, leaving her critically injured, officials said. The woman’s son was also injured while trying to protect her.

Background of the Incident

According to police, the accused, identified as Vineet alias Golu Rawat, was in a relationship with Mohini, the daughter of 42-year-old Anju Gautam. Around six weeks ago, Mohini allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling after being scolded by her family members.

Angered by her death, Vineet is said to have confronted Anju while she was on her way back from her parental home in Kathwara village. She had gone there with her son Mohit for Raksha Bandhan celebrations.

Attack and Police Action

During the attack, Mohit tried to stop Vineet and sustained injuries. Villagers quickly informed the police, who arrived at the scene and took Anju to Ram Sagar Mishra Joint Hospital. Due to her critical health condition, her mother was later shifted to another hospital in Balrampur. Mohit received treatment and was discharged soon after. Police said Vineet escaped after the assault, and a manhunt is underway to capture him.
