Mumbai: The results for 29 municipalities in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, were announced today. In Mumbai, the BJP-Eknath Shinde alliance has achieved a resounding victory. The BJP also created history in Mumbai, winning the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (MNS) polls for the first time.
“Voters in Thane have given a clear majority. I thank the people of Thane for this. The people of Mumbai have also given the alliance the majority it needed. I thank the people of Mumbai for this as well,” Eknath Shinde said.
“The alliance is also seeing good success in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). In Mumbai, we fought and won these elections on the basis of development,” he added.
Eknath Shinde said that the alliance will have mayors in most municipalities across the BJP state is in favour of the alliance.
“We have won in Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, and Mumbai. Shiv Sena has made a big impact in Mumbai. Mumbai has made a good start. The Mahayuti alliance will decide the mayor,” he said.
Taking a dig at Uddhav Thackeray, Shinde said, “some people fought this election based on sentiment. But the voters have chosen the alliance.”
Shinde said that in the last three and a half years, Mumbai has seen the development efforts of the Mahayuti alliance.
“In the last three and a half years, Mumbai has seen our efforts towards development. Me and Fadnavis, as chief ministers, have pushed forward many stalled projects, including road construction,” he said.
“The people of Mumbai have voted against those who ruled Mumbai for 25 years. People have now accepted development. Those who rejected development have also been rejected by the voters,” he added.
Shinde said that Mumbaikars have accepted the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance’s brand of development.
“Even though issues of corruption were raised before the people, we have come closer to power. Now, considering the speed at which Mumbai's development should take place, with the alliance having a mayor at the Center, in the State, and now in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, good development is now possible. Mumbai should be the way people want it to be,” Shinde said.
