Maharashtra: The results of the elections for 23 municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats in Maharashtra are being declared today. Along with this, the decision regarding the 143 member posts lying vacant in these bodies will also be revealed. There has been a lot of activity at the counting centers since morning, and everyone's eyes are fixed on the initial trends.
A total of 47.04 percent voting was recorded in the voting held on Saturday. Voting started at 7.30 am and continued till 5.30 pm. Voting remained peaceful in many areas, while minor disturbances were reported at some places.
In this election, maximum political attention is focused on the Baramati Municipal Council of Pune District and the Ambernath Municipal Council of Thane District. These seats are being considered a question of prestige, because the credibility of big leaders is at stake here.
The process of counting votes started at 10 am. First of all, the postal ballots are being counted. After this the counting of votes cast from EVM will begin. The Election Commission and the district administration have made tight security arrangements for the counting of votes.
There is a lot of curiosity about the counting of votes in the Sangola Municipal Council of the Solapur district. Strong rooms have been opened in the presence of candidates, and EVMs have been taken out. The results of 12 municipal councils are to be declared in the Ahilyanagar district. Especially the contest is in discussion on the Jamkhed seat, where big political names are face-to-face.
There is a tough competition in the municipal councils of Gadchiroli, Armori, and Desaiganj. Here the counting of votes will be completed in several rounds. The administration has made complete preparations, and every step is being monitored to maintain transparency.
A case of violation of the election code of conduct has come to light in Jaysingpur. A case has been registered against two people for putting up digital hoardings without permission. A case of an attempt to cast fake votes has also been detected in Nashik district.
Even before the counting of votes started, BJP had won unopposed on some seats. These include Dondaicha-Varwade of Dhule, Jamner of Jalgaon, and Ungar Nagar Panchayat of Solapur.
Now all eyes are on the results, which can decide the direction of local politics of the state in the times to come.
