Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed displeasure over the raids by the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate on locations associated with I-PAC. Speaking to the media in Kolkata, she said that such action was being taken with the intention of scaring her, but it would not weaken her. She alleged that all this is being done out of political enmity and also targeted the central government through gestures.
“If someone tries to kill me, I am reborn,” the Chief Minister said. According to her, her morale is not going to be broken due to political pressure and action of investigating agencies. She said that such steps cannot push them back.
I-PAC is a political strategy and election consultancy that has worked with a number of parties. Recently the Income Tax Department and ED raided the offices and residences of some people related to it. The agencies are investigating the alleged financial transactions and documents.
Mamta Banerjee says that central agencies are being used as political weapons. She alleged that whenever elections come near or the opposition becomes strong, such actions start.
Trinamool Congress leaders and workers have also protested against the raid. The party says that this action is an attempt to scare. Supporters also demonstrated at many places and raised slogans against the central government.
It has been said by the central agencies that the investigation is being conducted completely within the ambit of law and it has nothing to do with politics. Officials say they are only examining documents and financial transactions.
After this case, the politics of West Bengal have become more heated. The opposition and the ruling party have come face to face. In view of the upcoming elections, this issue can become a bigger political weapon.
The action of the investigating agencies may still continue. Mamta Banerjee has clearly said that she will fight on both legal and political fronts. Trinamool Congress is also preparing to take it among the public.
