Manish Sisodia
National News: Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has created a stir in political corridors by ordering a criminal case against senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. But the question is not just about an FIR - it is a staining line, where governance and politics start dissolving among themselves.
LG alleges that the Delhi government issued such advertisements from the government treasury despite the strict guidelines of the Supreme Court - that was political - that is, the promotion of "AAP". Statistics show that around 97.4 crore rupees were spent on such advertisements, which broadcast outside Delhi. The Supreme Court's 2015 guideline clearly says that government money cannot be used in the promotion of any political person, party or ideology. This also raises this question. Does a ruling party have the privilege to spread their thoughts in the name of governance?
In January 2023, a notice was sent to the Aam Aadmi Party which demanded a recovery of Rs 163.62 crore including interest. This figure not only reflects financial disturbances, but also shows how expensive the brand building in politics is now - and that too from the public's pocket.
LG has directed that the payment made by the Delhi government to the advertising agencies should be recovered from the party. These orders not only return money, but demand a moral accountability.
The aim of the three -member committee formed in 2016 was to make government advertisements transparent, so that the ruling party does not change it as its propaganda system. But when both the Center and the state cross this Laxman Rekha repeatedly, then what should the common citizen trust?
The AAP has directly described LG's action as the political agenda of the BJP. The party says that the central government is unable to run the administration, so opposition leaders are implicating the leaders in false cases. Manish Sisodia is already facing investigation in Excise Policy and School Construction Scam. According to AAP, this case is also a link to the same sequence.
This episode has not only put Manish Sisodia or AAP in the dock, but has also revealed what is the value of democracy when the line of governance and publicity disappears. This matter is a warning for all parties - stay in power, but in its dignity.
The FIR on Manish Sisodia is not only a legal process, but a symbolic warning - that if governance is used in polishing politics, the law will also seek answers from politics. Now it has to be seen whether this action will move towards true accountability or will become just another political drama.
