Mahakumbh 2025: With just one day remaining until the highly anticipated Mahakumbh, the world's largest religious gathering, significant security measures have been implemented in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Authorities are preparing for an influx of over 450 million attendees, as this sacred event occurs only once every 12 years.
Uttar Pradesh's Director General of Police, Prashant Kumar, assured that extensive security protocols are established for the Mahakumbh, which runs from January 13 to February 26. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has mandated a robust security framework to safeguard participants and ensure smooth access along crucial routes connecting Prayagraj to surrounding areas.
In alignment with the Chief Minister's directives, a circular security system featuring 102 checkpoints has been established along seven vital routes. This system will facilitate thorough checks and frisking of vehicles and individuals entering the area. DGP Kumar emphasized the commitment of the Uttar Pradesh Police to ensure participant safety, deploying over 1,000 police personnel for this purpose.
To enhance security efforts, additional resources have been allocated. This includes 71 inspectors, 234 sub-inspectors, 645 constables, and 113 Home Guards/PRD (Prantiya Rakshak Dal) personnel actively monitoring the event. The deployment of five Vajra vehicles, ten drones, and four anti-sabotage teams will further bolster surveillance efforts around the clock.
The security strategy incorporates cutting-edge technology to ensure comprehensive monitoring. Collaborating with the state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), National Security Guard (NSG), and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), the police have conducted mock drills to prepare for any potential threats. Notably, a total of 2,700 AI-enabled cameras have been installed throughout the Kumbh area, along with 113 underwater drones tasked with monitoring waterways.
The Uttar Pradesh Police have introduced a multi-layered security system termed “impenetrable security chakravyuh” to protect key installations such as temples and akhadas. This strategic approach aims to provide maximum safety for all participants during this monumental event. As preparations reach their final stages, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to ensure that the Mahakumbh unfolds smoothly and securely for millions of devotees.
