National News: The Indian government has shared new data showing that over ₹67.02 crore was spent on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits to five countries in the year 2025. These trips included the United States, France, and three other unnamed countries.

This information was provided by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in a written reply to a question asked by TMC MP Derek O'Brien in the Rajya Sabha. In addition to this, the minister also informed that the total cost of PM Modi’s foreign travel between 2021 and 2024 was ₹294.93 crore.

Some Trip Expenses Still Pending

The government noted that the financial details of certain trips are still being finalized. These trips include visits to Mauritius, Cyprus, Canada, Croatia, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia.

As per the reply, the settlement of bills for these visits is still underway, which means the final costs have not yet been calculated. The minister stated that once these expenses are cleared, the full details will be shared.

Opposition Raises Questions on Transparency

MP Derek O’Brien had questioned how much money has been spent on the Prime Minister’s travels so far and which trips’ expenses are still not made public.

In response, the government provided specific figures for some trips, but for others, it only mentioned that “bills are being settled.” This partial information could again lead to debate over transparency and accountability related to high-level foreign visits.

Building a Diplomatic Relations With Others Countries

The Prime Minister’s international visits are important for building diplomatic relations and promoting India’s global interests. However, when the cost details are delayed or unclear, it can raise public concerns, especially in a democratic setup. The data shared in Parliament is a step in the right direction, but citizens expect full transparency about how public money is spent on such high-profile travels.
