Monsoon Alert: Heavy Rain And Strong Winds Forecasted For Tomorrow

As the monsoon intensifies across India, the IMD has forecast heavy downpours and storms for the Northeast, Western, and Southern coasts, while sudden snow blocked roads in Himachal Pradesh and heavy rain triggered severe waterlogging in parts of Kashmir.

New Delhi: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said in the press release, monsoon activity will be strong across the country on June 23. The northeast will see the heaviest rainfall. Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will get light to moderate rain. Some areas could see very heavy downpours. West Bengal's foothills and Sikkim will also get heavy rain.

Will East and Central India brace for storms?

Eastern and central regions will see active weather as well. Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh could get thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds. Farmers in these states are hoping for relief as the monsoon advances. But, eastern Uttar Pradesh may feel humid and hot. Some areas could face heatwave conditions.

West and south get heavier rain?

The western and southern coast will see stronger monsoon activity. Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will get widespread rain. Some parts of the western coast could see heavy showers. Southern Gujarat's districts expect more rain. But northern parts of Gujarat may stay drier. Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and parts of Jammu & Kashmir could get thunderstorms with light to moderate rain and strong winds. Temperatures may drop slightly due to the combined effect of western disturbances and monsoon.

Snow blocks roads in Himachal?

There's a possibility of snow hit in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district on Monday. The Dalhousie-Lakkad Mandi-Khajjiar road was blocked for about two hours. Officials said the sudden snowfall surprised everyone. Many tourists got stuck in traffic jams. But tourists visiting Dalhousie were happy to see snow this month. The Public Works Department quickly sent heavy machinery to clear the road. The weather center in Shimla said rain with thunderstorms will hit Mandi, Kangra, Kullu and Shimla districts over the next four days until Friday. There's a yellow alert for lightning and winds up to 40 km per hour.

Arunachal Pradesh faces heavy downpours?

Arunachal Pradesh will get heavy rain starting from Tuesday. Several districts could see thunderstorms and lightning on Tuesday. West Kameng, East Kameng, Papum Pare, West Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit and Namsai districts are on alert. Wednesday could also bring bad weather. Rain with lightning is expected in scattered areas. Most of the state could get thunderstorms. Some districts including Tirap, Longding, Changlang, East Siang, West Kameng and Papum Pare could see heavy rain.

Kashmir hit by heavy rains and hail?

Heavy rain hit large parts of Kashmir on Monday and some areas got hail too. Several parts of Srinagar flooded because of the downpour. Temperature in the valley dropped several degrees. Some areas in Srinagar and Anantnag districts saw hail. The old parts of Srinagar got waterlogged. Some neighborhoods were completely submerged. The administration has started a water removal operation in affected areas.
