Bihar: A shocking murder case has emerged from Palsa village in the Azamnagar police station area of Bihar's Katihar district, where a middle-aged man was killed over a mere ₹500. The incident, which occurred late on November 10, was uncovered by police on Monday after the victim’s body was found in a water-filled pit.

Party ends in tragedy

According to police investigations, the victim, Vasudev Mandal, had gone to the home of his female acquaintance, Pinky Devi, in Jokar School Tola. During the visit, Mandal was joined by his friend Vishnu Rishi and another individual. The three consumed alcohol together and later went to watch a dance performance at Bengali Tola village.

While returning home, Vishnu and his accomplice noticed a wad of cash in Mandal’s pocket and conspired to rob him. As the trio walked through a secluded area, the two assailants attacked Mandal, attempting to steal the money.

Murder and arrest

The duo brutally assaulted Mandal, dragged him to a nearby water-filled pit, and drowned him. His body was then left in the pit.

On November 11, Mandal's wife, Shanti Devi, filed a missing person complaint after her husband failed to return home. Following extensive searches, the body was discovered in Palsa village. SP Vaibhav Sharma confirmed the arrest of the prime suspect, Vishnu Rishi, while an SIT led by Barsol SDPO Ajay Kumar continues to investigate the case.

Ongoing investigation

Azamnagar SHO Kundan Kumar revealed details of the crime, highlighting the role of greed and premeditated planning. The police are working to apprehend the remaining suspect involved in the murder.
