National News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a multi-nation tour and has now arrived in Argentina following his visit to Trinidad and Tobago. This trip is considered historic, as it marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years. While PM Modi had previously visited Argentina in 2018 to attend the G20 Summit, that visit was part of a multilateral engagement. This time, the visit is entirely focused on deepening bilateral ties between the two countries.
Upon his arrival at AGESA International Airport in Buenos Aires, PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honor. During his stay, he is scheduled to meet with Argentine President Javier Milei. Their discussions will center on enhancing cooperation in several key strategic areas.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders are expected to discuss a wide range of issues, including defense cooperation, agricultural innovation, renewable energy, mineral resources, science and technology, and investment opportunities. The central theme of the meeting will be to promote a mutually beneficial strategic partnership aligned with both nations' long-term interests.
Argentina’s Vaca Muerta shale gas project could emerge as a vital source of long-term energy security for India. Furthermore, Argentina’s rich reserves of lithium and rare earth minerals are particularly significant for India’s electric vehicle (EV) and battery manufacturing sectors. This collaboration could play a pivotal role in advancing India’s self-reliance in green and clean energy technologies.
In his official statement, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that Argentina, being a global leader in agricultural production, holds the potential to become a key supplier of grains and oilseeds for India. Additionally, Argentina’s active participation in the International Solar Alliance (ISA) offers a promising opportunity to strengthen green energy collaboration between the two nations.
Before arriving in Argentina, PM Modi visited Trinidad and Tobago on a two-day official trip. During this visit, he was honored with the country’s highest civilian award—"The "Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago." He is the first foreign leader ever to receive this prestigious recognition. On this historic occasion, six important agreements were signed between the two countries, covering areas such as trade, digital transactions, cultural exchange, healthcare, maritime cooperation, and skill development.
Following his engagements in Argentina, PM Modi will head to Brazil to participate in the 17th BRICS Summit, where major discussions are expected on global economic, diplomatic, and security challenges. His final stop will be Namibia, where he will hold high-level bilateral talks aimed at reinforcing India–Africa relations.
Prime Minister Modi’s ongoing tour reflects India’s expanding diplomatic, energy, and geo-economic ambitions. From lithium-rich partnerships to solar energy collaboration, and from defense alignment to active participation in global forums, this visit represents a multi-dimensional leap in India’s evolving global strategy.
