How PM Modi’s bold move forced the US to rethink its stand on India (Social Media)
National News: It's extremely difficult for any head of state to publicly say no to a global power that even prominent leaders remain silent against. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi demonstrated this courage and made India's position clear by firmly rejecting US President Donald Trump's mediation proposal. This move not only strengthened Modi's image but also enhanced India's stature on the global stage.
Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, Trump offered to mediate between the two countries. However, Modi publicly rejected the offer, stating that there was no need for outside interference in India's issues.
Political analyst and President of the Eurasia Group, Ian Bremmer, described this decision as bold and said it was a shining example of personality-based diplomacy. "Despite the huge power gap between India and Pakistan, Modi challenged Trump, which is rare globally," Bremmer said.
Bremmer explained in an interview that Trump often uses his power to get other countries to agree with him. "Trump believes that because he is powerful, he must be obeyed. But only a few countries, like China and Russia, stand up to him. Now Modi has achieved that position," he said.
According to Bremmer, Modi could have explained to Trump privately. But he strategically made it clear on the global stage that the US has nothing to do with the India-Pakistan issue.
"This publicly embarrassed Trump. This was a well-thought-out move, strengthening Modi's domestic political position and sending a message to the US that attempts to pressure India could backfire," Bremmer said.
Referring to the photo of Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin sitting in a limousine during the SCO summit, Bremmer said it was a profound message for the United States. "Modi sat with Putin in the same way as Putin recently sat in Trump's limousine. Washington clearly understood this, and Trump's attitude towards Modi became more friendly," he said.
Bremmer said that the US never wants powers like Europe or India to stand on par with it. Therefore, its approach towards India is always cautious.
Bremmer also praised PM Modi's efforts to stabilize relations with China. He described Trump and Pakistan's business relationship as "based on opportunism."
He said that this relationship is not based on any strategic thinking or morality, but rather on the personal profit of both parties. “In the Trump era, diplomacy is often overshadowed by personal interests, and this is happening openly,” Bremmer said. Thus, Modi's bold move establishes India on the global stage as an independent and assertive nation, unwilling to accept any external pressure on its issues.
