‘TMC Betrayed Bengal’s Women’: PM Narendra Modi Targets Mamata, CM Fires Back (x)
Kolkata: In a public meeting held on Sunday in Vishnupur in Bankura district of West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly attacked the opposition, especially Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the Women's Reservation Bill. He said that it is clear from what happened in Parliament that TMC and Congress together tried to stop this bill. Modi called this a direct betrayal of the women of Bengal and said that BJP has been in favor of giving more participation to women in politics since the beginning.
Modi said that the central government wanted to implement 33 percent reservation and was ready to implement it from 2029, but opposition parties created obstacles in it. He alleged that TMC does not want the daughters of Bengal to reach the Assembly and Parliament in large numbers.
The Prime Minister used the word “cheating” several times in his speech. He said that the hopes of the women of Bengal have been broken and the public will definitely respond to this. According to him, an atmosphere of change has arisen in the state and people are now upset with the old system.
Modi said that BJP gave the country the first tribal woman president, but TMC had expressed its views by fielding a candidate against her. Referring to the recent protocol controversy, he said that it is an insult to the highest office of the country.
The Prime Minister accused the TMC government of ignoring rules to benefit infiltrators. He also said that trying to give reservations on the basis of religion is against the Constitution. Besides, questions were also raised regarding law and order in the state.
Modi said that the people of Bengal themselves are now raising their voices. Referring to “Bengal Tiger”, he said that the real power is the people and now they are standing against TMC. According to him, the increasing crowd is a sign of this change.
The Prime Minister said in a strict tone that the goons, syndicate mafia and corrupt people associated with TMC should surrender before April 29. He made it clear that after this, action is certain and no one will be spared.
Modi said that if the BJP government is formed in the state, the poor will get free ration, women will be given financial help to build houses and treatment facilities will start under the Ayushman scheme. He also reiterated the need to provide annual financial assistance to women.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rejected the Prime Minister's allegations and said that TMC has always been in favor of women's representation. He said that his party already has a large number of women MPs. Mamata also clarified that her opposition is not to women's reservation but to the delimitation process, which she termed political.
