Srinagar: The deadly explosion at Naugam police station in Srinagar forced the state administration to take action on a large scale. The government has constituted a high-level committee to investigate the matter in depth. The responsibility of the committee rests with the principal secretary of the Home Department. Along with him, a senior scientist of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory and several important officials have also been included. The team has to find out why the explosion occurred, at what level the mistake occurred, and who is responsible for it.

How did the explosion happen?

This accident happened on November 14 when the investigation of explosives recovered from Faridabad was going on at Naugam police station. This was the same explosive that was captured and brought to Srinagar after busting a major terrorist module. According to the police, forensic experts were doing the work of taking samples from the same large cache. Meanwhile, there was a massive explosion that razed the entire building to the ground.

The intensity of the blast was so high that no one present at the spot even got a chance to recover. Six policemen, two revenue employees, and a civilian died in the accident. About 32 people were injured. It took a long time for rescue teams to remove the debris, as the building had completely collapsed.

What was the connection with the terrorist module?

This blast was related to the investigation of terrorist activities. A white-collar module was caught after posters related to Jaish were found in the Naugam police station area. As the investigation progressed, a large cache of explosives was found from Faridabad. Security agencies brought it to Srinagar and started detailed scientific testing. A police spokesperson said an error during the sampling process led to the accident.

What will the inquiry committee do now?

The government has ordered the committee to conduct a detailed investigation. The committee will see whether the security protocols were followed properly or not. If there has been any negligence, then clear responsibility will be fixed for it. The Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, and the District Magistrate, Srinagar, have also been included in the committee to complete the investigation from both administrative and technical viewpoints.

When will the report come?

According to officials, the committee is carrying out its work rapidly, and the report will be submitted to the government soon. The administration says that no mistake will be ignored in this matter so that such an incident does not happen again in the future.
