National News: A major accident took place late last night in the Turbhe area of Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, when a massive fire suddenly broke out at the APMC market located in Sector 20. The fire quickly engulfed the entire truck terminal, triggering panic across the marketplace. The APMC market is recognized as Navi Mumbai’s largest hub for grain distribution.
At around 2 a.m., local residents noticed thick clouds of smoke and flames rising from the market. They immediately alerted the fire brigade and police. According to eyewitnesses, the blaze spread so rapidly that 8 to 10 trucks and tempos were reduced to ashes within minutes. The entire market was thrown into chaos, with traders and laborers seen running in all directions to save their lives.

The fire originated in the truck terminal area, where goods from farmers and wholesalers are routinely loaded and unloaded. Nearby, a large grain warehouse—storing thousands of quintals of grain—was also caught in the flames. The entire stock was destroyed, causing losses estimated in the lakhs for multiple traders.
Upon receiving the emergency call, more than ten fire brigade vehicles were immediately dispatched to the location. Firefighters battled the flames for nearly three hours before finally bringing the situation under control. Local police sealed off the affected area and advised bystanders to maintain a safe distance.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in the incident. However, multiple vehicles were completely destroyed, and the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. Preliminary investigations suggest a possible short circuit, though officials have stated that a detailed forensic analysis is underway to determine the root cause.
The APMC market is not only a vital trading hub for Navi Mumbai but also for farmers from Thane and Raigad districts. Thousands of farmers bring their produce here daily. With the warehouse burned down, many have lost their entire stock, leading to widespread concern and frustration among both farmers and traders.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has taken the incident seriously and demanded a full report from the APMC market authorities. Officials have confirmed that the electrical infrastructure and fire safety protocols at the market will be reviewed and upgraded to prevent similar incidents in the future.
