Congress Turns Up the Heat on NEET Paper Leak Issue, Top Leaders Detained Ahead of INDIA Bloc Meet (X)

New Delhi: The country's politics are continuously becoming heated regarding the NEET paper leak controversy. On one hand, protests are going on regarding issues related to students, while on the other hand, political parties have also come face to face in this matter. On Tuesday, Congress marched towards the prime minister's residence and demonstrated against the central government. During this time, many senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi were detained by the police, who were later released. On the other hand, CJP, the organisation running the movement, kept itself away from this demonstration of Congress.

What allegations did Congress make against the government?

Congress leaders alleged that the government was not taking the demands of the students seriously. During the demonstration, party leaders demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, taking moral responsibility. Congress says that there should be a detailed discussion in Parliament on this issue related to the future of students.

Rahul Gandhi issued a video message saying that the opposition continuously wants a debate on this topic, but the government is avoiding the discussion. Emphasising the need to reform the education system, he said that the interests of the students should be given top priority.

Why was there an uproar near the Prime Minister's residence?

Congress MPs and leaders marched on foot towards the Prime Minister's residence. Citing security reasons, the police stopped them from proceeding further. After this many leaders sat on strike on the road. As the situation worsened, the police took Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other leaders into custody. After some time everyone was released.

Why did Sonam Wangchuk's fast become a topic of discussion?

Amidst this entire incident, the fast of social activist Sonam Wangchuk is also continuing. Following the court's direction, he was shifted from Safdarjung Hospital to a private hospital in Gurugram. Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Union Minister Jitendra Singh reached the hospital and enquired about his well-being.

Wangchuk's fast continues on issues related to students and demands for reforms in the education system, on which political reactions are also continuously emerging.

Why is there a distance between Congress and CJP?

Although both the parties are raising the issues of students, CJP did not support the Congress protest. The founder of the organisation clarified that his movement is not associated with any political party and it is being run completely independently. He said that the organisation will continue the movement as per its scheduled programmes.

Increased rhetoric between government and opposition?

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan termed Congress's protest a political show and said that the government is ready to discuss every issue in Parliament. He says that the government is taking necessary steps to protect the interests of the students and the opposition should adopt the path of dialogue.

At the same time, BJP leaders criticised the Congress protest and called it an attempt to take political advantage. On the other hand, Congress alleges that the government is trying to suppress the voice of the opposition.

What could happen next?

Political activities have intensified from Parliament to the streets regarding the NEET paper leak issue. The opposition is preparing to corner the government on this issue, while the government is talking about discussion and reply. In the coming days, there are indications that the political conflict on this issue will intensify inside and outside the Parliament.
