New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party got a new national president on Monday. 45-year-old Nitin Naveen was selected for this important post without any competition. Naveen, who has been a five-time MLA from Bihar, will now be counted among the youngest national presidents of the party. The confirmation of his name is being seen as the beginning of a change of generation in leadership within the party.

How was Nitin Naveen's name decided for the post of president?

The nomination process took place at the party headquarters in Delhi on Monday. Election Officer K. Laxman said that a total of 37 nomination papers were submitted in support of Nitin Naveen. These included proposals from 36 states and union territories, while one proposal was given by the parliamentary party.

Many senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupendra Yadav, Kiren Rijiju, Hardeep Puri and outgoing Speaker JP Nadda signed his nomination.

Was there any other leader in this race?

Apart from Nitin Naveen, no one else filed nomination for the post of president. In such a situation, his selection was considered almost certain.

How is this decision being viewed in the party?

Within the BJP, this is not just being seen as a change of position, but as an attempt to bring forward the new generation. Party sources say that preparations for change in the organization were going on for a long time, and now it has been started by the top leadership.

What will be the responsibility of Nitin Naveen in future?

Nitin Naveen will have to handle the party's strategy in the assembly elections of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry in the coming months. Apart from this, he will also be responsible for the long pending reshuffle in the organization and formation of a new team.

How was the organization election process completed?

According to Laxman, the internal election process going on in the party has been named “Sangathan Parv.” Under this, first the presidents were elected in the states. The process of electing the national president was started only after the president was elected in 30 out of 36 states. The election schedule was announced on 16 January 2026, and nominations were filed between 2 and 4 pm on Monday.

What is the atmosphere regarding this news in Bihar?

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary called it a proud moment for the state. He said that it is historic for a leader from Bihar to become the national president at such a young age.

What did senior party leaders say?

Former president of BJP's Yuva Morcha and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that the selection of Nitin Naveen is a big message to connect the youth with politics. According to him, the party will contest the upcoming elections under the leadership of Naveen.

Was Nitin Naveen already considered a contender for this post?

The surprising thing was that after JP Nadda, Nitin Naveen's name was not much discussed for the post of president. There was speculation about some more names in political circles, but at the last moment the party expressed confidence in him.

How is BJP presenting this entire election?

The party says that the organization's festival reflects its internal democratic tradition, where selection from the booth level to the national president is done through a fixed process and not on the basis of any family or heritage.
