Srinagar: A massive explosion occurred late Friday night at Naugam police station located on the outskirts of Srinagar. The police and forensic team were there testing the explosive material seized from Faridabad. During the process of extracting the samples, a sudden explosion occurred. The incident was so intense that within a short time smoke and flames started rising into the sky.
Six people died in the explosion. 27 people were injured, including most police personnel and forensic experts. Many injured policemen have been admitted to different hospitals of the city. After the accident, other small explosions continued for some time, which created problems in the rescue operation.
This was the same explosive material that was recently seized in Faridabad, Haryana. This stockpile is said to be part of about 360 kg of explosives. This material is linked to the module that was seized by Srinagar Police last month. This module was being run by a trio of doctors, some of whom are under arrest and some are said to be absconding.

According to the information received so far, it appears to be an accidental explosion. The police team was only conducting tests, and the blast occurred at that time. However, considering the seriousness of the incident, security agencies have intensified the investigation. It is also worth noting that this accident happened just a few days after the car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi, which the Center had described as a terrorist attack.

Bomb disposal squads and investigation teams are closely investigating the entire complex. The process of identification of the dead is going on. Officials are also looking into the manner in which the explosive material was stored and where there were lapses in handling. The police station building has also been damaged, which is being technically investigated. No possibility is being ruled out until a detailed report of the entire matter comes.
