National News: On Tuesday, several opposition leaders strongly criticized the central government in Lok Sabha over the Pahalgam terror attack and the response through Operation Sindoor. They said the incident was a result of a major intelligence and security failure and questioned why no international support came after the attack.
Congress leader Pawan Khera said the prime minister gave no clear answers in Parliament. "We wanted a detailed discussion because the nation deserves clarity. But not even one proper reply was given,” Khera said.
He also accused the prime minister of avoiding serious questions and instead blaming the opposition. “We asked how the terrorists entered the country and how they attacked tourists, but the government gave no explanation,” he added.
Khera further questioned why the United States announced a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after the attack. “Why did India fail to get any international support? Not one major global body condemned Pakistan. Is that not a failure of our foreign policy?” he asked.
He also raised concern that the prime minister avoided mentioning China despite the growing tension with the neighboring country.
Congress MP K.C. Venugopal said it was surprising that the US president announced a ceasefire before India could respond. “This is not acceptable. No country should interfere like this,” he said.
He also criticized Home Minister Amit Shah, saying his speech ignored the actual security failures in Kashmir. “If the government says Kashmir is safe for tourists, why wasn’t their safety ensured?” Venugopal asked.
DMK MP A. Raja said the attack clearly showed that intelligence agencies failed, and the administration could not handle the situation. He too questioned why no international group spoke against Pakistan.
IUML MP E.T. Mohammed Basheer raised doubts about how the terrorists reached a busy tourist destination like Pahalgam. Independent MP from Baramulla, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, said the government’s claim of normalcy in Kashmir is only true on social media. “People are tired of carrying dead bodies,” he said.
He also asked why no representatives from Kashmir were included in international delegations sent to explain India’s position on terrorism.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said that the government keeps blaming Pakistan, but the real danger is from China. “China is taking our land and our markets,” he said.
He asked who is responsible for the security lapse in Pahalgam, especially when the government had earlier promised that no such attacks would happen after Article 370 was removed from Jammu and Kashmir.
Yadav also questioned why a new military operation called Operation Mahadev was launched on the same day that Operation Sindoor was being discussed in Parliament. “Was the timing of that encounter just a coincidence?” he asked.
He said the government should do a full review of its current policies instead of simply blaming mistakes each time. “You can’t just run away by saying there was a lapse. The people need answers,” he said.
Yadav further suggested that the government should rethink its business dealings with China if it truly wants to reduce threats. “China is taking more than our land. It is also capturing our economy,” he said.
