Udhayanidhi Stalin Arrested From Chennai Home Over 'Vulgar' Remarks Against Trisha Krishnan

Chennai: DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday was detained from his Chennai residence after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kaszhagam filed complaints with the police and the National Commission for Women (NCW) over the leader of opposition's alleged 'vulgar' remarks on actress Trisha Krishnan. 

What is the whole matter? 

The DMK leader was detained from his residence in Neelankarai on Tuesday after TVK registered a complaint against him over his alleged remarks, that he made during a rally on the Cauvery water dispute in Thanjavur, against Trisha Krishnan. 

Throughout the speech, Stalin continuously criticised the state Chief Minister and TVK chief Vijay for their faulty policies in managing Cauvery River waters.

Afterwards, a few individuals in the rally started chanting "Trisha, Trisha" aloud. At this point, Udhayanidhi stopped his speech on the stage, smiled at the audience and asked them why they were shouting Trisha's name. It was during this point that he reportedly made a vulgar remark.

Who filed the complaint?

On the basis of a complaint made by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Thanjavur police booked an FIR against Udhayanidhi Stalin.

The case is being investigated under several legal provisions such as those relating to inciting hatred among communities, IT Act and harassment of women.

TVK has also lodged a complaint with the National Commission for Women on account of Udhayanidhi's insulting comments against women's honor.
