New Delhi: On Sunday, the Pakistan Army carried out airstrikes on the eastern areas of Afghanistan's Nangarhar and Paktika. Pakistan says that these attacks were on the targets of Pakistani terrorists like TTP. It claims that more than 70 terrorists were killed. Deputy Interior Minister Talal Chaudhary said on Geo News that the action was a response to the attacks on the border but did not show any photos or evidence.
India immediately condemned it in the strongest terms. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "India strongly condemns Pakistan's airstrike on Afghanistan, which killed civilians, including women and children, in the holy month of Ramzan. This is yet another attempt by Pakistan to highlight its domestic failures. " India reiterated its full support for Afghanistan's sovereignty, borders and independence.
Kabul called Pakistan's claim false. Afghan Defense Ministry spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said the bombs fell on homes, madrassas and common areas. Dozens of people were killed and injured, including women and children. Nangarhar Red Crescent officer Mawlawi Fazal Rehman Faiyaz confirmed that 18 people were killed. Mujahid wrote on X that Pakistan dropped bombs on our "civilian brothers" in Ramzan, and the claim of 70 terrorists is absolutely false.
After the attack, the Afghan Foreign Ministry summoned Pakistan's ambassador to Kabul and expressed strong protest. The statement read, "This is a blatant violation of Afghanistan's airspace, the attack on civilians is a provocative act." Afghanistan clearly said that the responsibility for the "bad consequences" of such actions will be on Pakistan, and it will do whatever is necessary to save its land.
People in the villages were clearing debris and preparing for the funeral of those killed. A local elder said that those killed were poor, neither Taliban, nor from the old government nor soldiers – just ordinary people who were already very troubled.
Everyone is getting angry after seeing this attack in the month of Ramzan. Afghanistan has said it will give a "considered response", while Pakistan is justifying its action. Now it remains to be seen how much the tension on the border increases.
