Muzaffarnagar ritual sacrifice: In a deeply disturbing incident, a couple has been arrested in Belda village, Muzaffarnagar, for allegedly sacrificing their one-month-old daughter during a ritual aimed at exorcising an evil spirit. The ritual, reportedly suggested by a local tantrik, was meant to rid their home of the malevolent presence that the couple believed was responsible for the mother's recurring illness. Authorities are still searching for the infant's body, although her clothes have been recovered.

Parents sacrificed their daughter to ward-off evil spirit

The couple, Gopal Singh (35), a daily wage worker, and Mamta (32), who married last year after Gopal’s first wife passed away, had been struggling with Mamta's persistent health issues since the birth of their daughter. According to the police, the couple visited a tantrik on Tuesday, seeking a solution to Mamta’s illness. The tantrik allegedly told them that an evil spirit had been tormenting the household, with Mamta’s sickness being tied to the birth of their child.

Upon returning from the tantrik's place, neighbors noticed that the baby was missing and grew suspicious. This prompted them to alert the authorities.

Arrest of the parents, video surfaces

On Wednesday, following a tip-off from villagers, SP (Rural) Aditya Bansal confirmed the arrest of the couple. Initial investigations revealed that the parents believed sacrificing their infant daughter would drive the evil spirit away from their home. According to police statements, Mamta had experienced recurring dreams, compelling her to perform the act of sacrifice.

The couple confessed to dumping the baby’s body in a nearby canal after the ritual, but authorities have yet to locate her remains. The discovery of the child’s clothing near the canal has deepened the tragedy, while the search for her body continues.

Superstition leads to crime

This horrifying incident underscores the dangers of superstition and blind faith in mystical practices. Despite advances in modern education and healthcare, reliance on unscientific methods such as those promoted by tantriks continues to hold sway in certain rural areas. The tragic death of the infant is a grim reminder of the devastating consequences these beliefs can have on vulnerable families.

The police are pressing forward with their investigation, hoping to uncover more details about the tantrik's involvement and any possible accomplices in the ritual.
