New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi got a lot of applause in the NDA parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday. A new trade deal signed with America, in which America's reciprocal tariff on Indian goods was reduced to 18%. Everyone together raised slogans of 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'. Big leaders like Nitin Nabin, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh were present – there was complete enthusiasm that finally the trade tension is reducing and Indian exporters will get relief.

The entire day was wasted in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Rahul Gandhi (now Leader of Opposition) strongly attacked the government by referring to the unpublished memoir 'Four Stars of Destiny' of former Army Chief General MM Naravane. He tried to read parts related to the India-China border tension of 2020 – Galwan, Doklam, Rechin La incidents. Cited extracts published in a magazine (The Caravan), in which it is written that Chinese tanks had reached near the Kailash range, but there was a delay in response. Rahul said, "The government is afraid of the book because it tells the real things."
BJP people immediately got angry. Rajnath Singh said, "Has the book been published? How will the unpublished things be read?" Amit Shah and Kiren Rijiju also protested, saying it was against the rules, demoralizing the army, and hurting the sentiments of the soldiers. Some MPs accused Rahul of "speaking the language of anti-India elements". Speaker Om Birla put a stop to it, citing Rule 349.
There was shouting and screaming in the house for 50 minutes. First adjourned till 3 o'clock, then till 4 o'clock, and finally closed for the whole day! No work could be done. Rahul told the media outside, "What is there in the book that you are feeling so scared? This is about General Naravane, not me. Where has the 56-inch chest gone?"
A meeting of Congress MPs was held at 10:30 this morning, where they made further plans. KC Venugopal said that the government is twisting the rules so that there is no debate on security issues. There is a motion of thanks debate on the President's Address in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha today. Congress is demanding to put the full text of the trade deal in Parliament – Jairam Ramesh wrote on X that it looks like "complete surrender".
Almost exactly a year ago, Prime Minister Modi landed up at the White House to greet President Trump on his re-election. His trademark huglomacy was on full display. India-US relations never appeared brighter.

Negotiations for a trade deal started immediately thereafter. But…
On one side there is celebration over the trade deal, on the other side the old border debate is heating up again. Let us see what drama is left in Parliament today – but this issue does not seem to be settled soon!
