National News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded Cyprus’s highest civilian honor, the 'Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III,' during his tour of the country. President Nicos Christodoulides presented the honor at a grand ceremony on Saturday. On this occasion, the government and people of Cyprus warmly welcomed Prime Minister Modi.
Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude for this historic honor and said that it is not just his, but the honor of 1.4 billion Indians. He described it as a symbol of the spirit of India–Cyprus friendship, cultural partnership, and global brotherhood.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi said, “Ever since I stepped onto the land of Cyprus, the warmth and affection shown by the people here has touched my heart. This honor is dedicated to India’s values that promote peace, unity, and global cooperation.” He further added that the India–Cyprus partnership will reach new heights in the coming years.
PM Modi also shared his sentiments on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), writing, “I am overwhelmed to receive Cyprus’s highest honor. I dedicate it to the friendship between India and Cyprus.” He also posted a video of the historic moment.
On June 15, Prime Minister Modi received a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace upon his arrival in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. This was followed by bilateral talks between the two nations, covering trade, technological cooperation, and global strategic issues.
A special highlight of this tour is that it marks the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Cyprus. This visit is seen as a significant step toward strengthening diplomatic ties between the two countries.
With the conclusion of the Cyprus visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to depart for Canada today in the next phase of his five-day foreign tour, where he will represent India at the G7 Summit. After that, his next stop will be Croatia.
This historic visit by Prime Minister Modi is regarded as the beginning of a new chapter in India–Cyprus relations. Both countries have pledged to enhance cooperation on trade, digital partnerships, climate change, and global peace. Cyprus has also reiterated its support for India’s positions at the United Nations and other international forums, recognizing India’s growing global leadership.
This tour is not only a symbol of mutual respect and harmony but also a crucial step toward elevating strategic and cultural partnerships to new heights.
