Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Motihari, Bihar, on Friday, where he inaugurated four new Amrit Bharat trains and launched multiple development projects. These initiatives are worth more than ₹7,200 crore and aim to boost transport and infrastructure in the state.

The four Amrit Bharat trains will connect the following routes:

  1. Rajendra Nagar Terminal (Patna) to New Delhi
  2. Bapudham Motihari to Anand Vihar Terminal (Delhi)
  3. Darbhanga to Gomti Nagar (Lucknow)
  4. Malda Town to Gomti Nagar (via Bhagalpur)

Support for Rural Housing and Women Empowerment

During the event, the Prime Minister also took part in the Griha Pravesh ceremony, where he handed over house keys to several families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin. More than 12,000 families were included, and Rs 160 crore was released to 40,000 beneficiaries.

In addition, ₹400 crore was given to more than 61,000 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission. These efforts are part of a larger goal to support women-led development. More than 10 crore women across India are now connected to SHGs.

Rail Projects to Improve Connectivity

PM Modi also dedicated a series of rail projects to the nation. These include:

  1. Automatic signalling on the Samastipur–Bachhwara line
  2. Doubling of Darbhanga–Thalwara and Samastipur–Rambhadrapur lines
  3. A new facility is being set up at Patliputra to maintain Vande Bharat trains.
  4. Upgrades to signalling and traction systems are being made on the Bhatni–Chhapra Gramin route.
  5. A major rail line doubling project is underway between Darbhanga and Narkatiaganj, costing around ₹4,080 crore.

These projects aim to increase train speed, reduce travel delays, and improve the movement of both passenger and goods trains.

Political Context Ahead of Elections

This visit comes just months before Bihar's Assembly elections, likely to be held in October or November. The NDA, including BJP and JD(U), hopes to retain power, while the INDIA bloc, led by RJD and Congress, aims to form the next government.
