PM Narendra Modi’s Big Message on Nasha Mukt Bharat and ‘Vocal for Local’ in Mann Ki Baat (X)
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke on many issues related to youth, drug de-addiction, indigenous products and historical heritage of the country in the 137th episode of 'Mann Ki Baat'. He appealed to the youth to stay away from drugs and also to make society aware against it. At the same time, during the festive season, emphasis was laid on giving priority to local artisans and goods made in the country.
Referring to the 'Drug Free Youth for Developed India' campaign, the Prime Minister said that this campaign is progressing rapidly and a large number of youth are joining it. He said that the effect of drug addiction is not limited only to the person affected by it but affects the entire family. The PM urged the youth to spread awareness against drug addiction through mediums like slogans, songs and drama.
Referring to the upcoming festivals, the Prime Minister asked people to give priority to local and Indian products in shopping. He said that ‘Vocal for Local’ is not limited to just buying earthen lamps. While purchasing other household items, it can be seen whether the goods are made in the country or not.

The Prime Minister also described the role of people associated with the creative sector, content creators and influencers as important in taking forward 'Vocal for Local'. He appealed to these people to adopt local products themselves and inspire others to do the same through their medium.
In the program, PM Modi mentioned the website of Mumbai's Krishna Sheshadri 'Bharat Rajya.com'. By selecting a particular year on this website, it can be seen who was ruling different parts of India at that time. The Prime Minister also spoke to Sheshadri on phone and appreciated his efforts.
While talking to the Prime Minister, Krishna Sheshadri told that he came into the field of marketing after engineering and MBA, but he was interested in history since childhood. He created the website with the aim of presenting history as a story rather than just facts. It tries to bring out different aspects of Indian history including empires like Chola, Pallava, Karkot and Ahom.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the patriotic atmosphere created in the country during August. He recalled occasions like Independence Day, National Handloom Day and anniversary of Quit India Movement. Also mentioning the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, he said that under the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, more than eight crore tricolor selfies have been uploaded so far.
Giving the example of PM Swanidhi Yojana, PM Modi said that it has helped a large number of women street vendors to expand their businesses. He said that 46 percent of the beneficiaries of the scheme are women. The Prime Minister also gave the example of Babita Sharma of Ghaziabad, whose stall selling puja material was converted into a shop with the help of the scheme.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the cleanliness and public participation seen during the Amarnath Yatra. He said that cleanliness is now becoming a part of the collective resolve of the people. Along with this, while mentioning the upcoming festivals like Janmashtami and Vishwakarma Puja, he reiterated his appeal to the people to give priority to local artisans and products made in India.
