PM Modi Takes Swipe At Previous Govt: ‘We Built 50,000 Rail Coaches, They Didn’t Make 50,000 Toilets’

Vadodara: While addressing the youth in Vadodara on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about many issues ranging from artificial intelligence to railways and Dedicated Freight Corridor. In the programme attended by about 6 thousand young professionals, the PM said that the coming era is full of new possibilities for the youth of India. During this time, he also targeted the opposition and made a taunt by saying 'echoes of lies' in the context of Rahul Gandhi's programmes. Development projects worth more than Rs 35 thousand crore were also inaugurated, and foundation stones were laid in the programme.

The Prime Minister said that artificial intelligence can bring big changes in areas like farming, health, manufacturing and robotics in the coming times. He said that youth can use AI not only for jobs but also to create new solutions and startups.

The PM mentioned the possibilities of creating new AI-based solutions for farming, using technology in the health sector and increasing the productivity of manufacturing. He also enumerated the possibilities for youth to start startups in robotics. While addressing the youth in Vadodara, PM Modi targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'Students' Echo' programmes without naming him. He said that 'echoes of lies' are being spread to mislead people.

How to target the previous government with railway data?

Referring to the modernisation of railways, the Prime Minister also attacked the previous government. He said that in the last decade, India has significantly expanded its capacity to manufacture rail coaches, metro coaches and rail engines. In his speech, the PM said that after 2014, about 50 thousand modern trains were made. Through this comparison, he questioned the functioning of the previous government and said that during its 10 year tenure, it was claimed to build 50 thousand toilets.

Why were the critics of the freight corridor called 'Naraj Fufa'?

Referring to the Dedicated Freight Corridor, the Prime Minister also took a dig at those who are raising questions about its impact on the trucking business. He used the term ‘Naraj Fufa’ for such critics.

The PM said that some people ask what will happen to truck drivers and truck owners if goods trains run faster. According to him, instead of eliminating the work of trucks from the freight corridor, the entire system of freight transportation will be more efficient.

How much time and fuel will the freight corridor save?

The Prime Minister said that the speed of goods trains has increased on the dedicated freight corridor. According to him, earlier goods trains used to take about six and a half hours to cover a distance of 100 kilometers, whereas now this time has been reduced to less than half.

He also said that the distance which used to take about 30 hours to cover by truck can be covered in 10 to 12 hours through the freight corridor. This was claimed to reduce both transportation cost and time along with saving fuel.

What did PM say on the freight corridor stuck since 2004?

The Prime Minister said that the idea of ​​a dedicated freight corridor came up in 2004 and a separate company was formed for it in 2006, but for a long time the work could not progress on the ground. According to him, the files kept rotating from one table to another till 2014.

The PM said that this project was given momentum after his government came to power. The country's entire dedicated freight corridor network became operational with the commissioning of three important stretches of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor on Tuesday. The length of these three stretches is 326 kilometers and more than Rs 20,700 crore has been spent on them.

Which big projects were started in Vadodara?

The Vadodara programme includes works worth more than Rs 35 thousand crore, including railways, highways and state government projects. The foundation stone of three railway projects spanning 329 km besides three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor was laid. Their cost is more than Rs 9,700 crore.

Apart from this, National Highway projects worth about Rs 1,780 crore and Gujarat Government projects worth about Rs 2,600 crore are also included in the programme.
