New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing debate in Parliament regarding the Women's Reservation Act, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly challenged the opposition and made this issue not only a political but also a moral test. He clearly said that the 'women power' of the country is keeping an eye on every activity of the Parliament, and women will not forgive anyone who tries to put obstacles in the way of this law. His statement has further increased the temperature of the debate within the House.

What message did PM Modi give?

The Prime Minister said in his address that this is not a favor to anyone but the right of women. He cautioned the MPs and said that not only the decisions but also the intentions are being watched by the women of the country. According to him, responsibility should not be shown on issues like women's reservation rather than politics.

Why target the opposition?

The Prime Minister accused the opposition of trying to postpone this law through technical excuses. He said that earlier also when it came to giving rights to women, decisions remained stuck due to similar reasons. This should not happen this time.

Has ‘women power’ been made the center?

In his speech, Modi repeatedly mentioned the role of women and said that today women's participation in elections has become decisive. Calling it the strength of democracy, he said that now it is not easy for any party to ignore women.

Was history also mentioned?

The Prime Minister reminded that in the last three decades, there were many attempts for women's reservation, but every time due to some reason or the other this law got stuck. He indicated that the parties which opposed it earlier also had to suffer political losses.

What was the meaning of the ‘blank cheque' statement?

During the speech, the Prime Minister gave a message to the opposition in a different way and said that he is ready to give full credit for this law to the opposition. He even said that if all the parties come together, it will be better for the country, but if there is opposition, then there will be political consequences.

Why did the dispute arise over delimitation?

The opposition has raised questions over linking the law to delimitation and census. On this the prime minister said that this is an important process and without it, it will not be possible to implement the law. He assured that there will be no injustice to any state and the representation of all will be balanced.

What are the further indications?

It is clear from the prime minister's stance that the government is in no mood to back down on women's reservation. Now the focus is on how the opposition responds to this challenge—through cooperation or through opposition.

This debate on the Women's Reservation Act is no longer just a legislative process, but it seems to be a turning point in the direction of a major change in the country's politics.
