Kerala: In a shocking incident in Pathanamthitta, Kerala, three family members were injured after allegedly being assaulted by police outside a bar, leading to widespread public outrage. The incident, attributed to "mistaken identity," has raised serious concerns about police conduct and accountability.

Assault Outside the Bar

The early hours of Wednesday turned chaotic when a patrol vehicle arrived at the bar following a disturbance report from the manager. Witnesses claim that police officers indiscriminately beat everyone near the establishment, including a family whose vehicle was parked nearby. The injured individuals recounted their harrowing experience, stating that some family members who exited their vehicle were targeted in an apparent attempt to intimidate them.

Political Leaders Demand Accountability

Political leaders have condemned the police's actions, calling for immediate and strict action against the officers involved. CPI(M) Pathanamthitta district secretary Raju Abraham expressed his outrage over the incident, while Congress MP Anto Antony criticized the rising lawlessness in the district. He highlighted that the police, instead of preventing crime, are now becoming perpetrators themselves.

Ongoing Investigation

In response to the public outcry, Pathanamthitta Deputy Superintendent of Police S Nandakumar has initiated an investigation into the incident. He is currently gathering statements from both the officers involved and the injured family members. Nandakumar assured reporters that thorough investigations would be conducted and appropriate actions would follow.This incident not only highlights issues of police brutality but also raises questions about accountability within law enforcement agencies. As investigations continue, the community remains vigilant and demands justice for those affected.
