Priyanka Gandhi Attacks (Credit: OpenAI )
New Delhi: In Lok Sabha’s special debate on 150 years of “Vande Mataram,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp criticism of the Congress party. He revisited historical claims and questioned legacy matters, drawing attention across the House. This provoked a strong response from Congress.
Taking the floor for the opposition, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra delivered a stern rebuttal. She accused BJP of playing political games ahead of upcoming elections and using history for electioneering. She said the special debate was not about national pride but a political ploy to divert attention from real issues.
Priyanka Gandhi declared plainly: “BJP fights elections; we fight for the country.” She emphasised that even if Congress loses elections, they will continue to stand up for India’s interests and fight the ruling party’s narrative and ideology. Her words were a clear warning: Congress will never remain silent.
Gandhi challenged Prime Minister Modi’s reference to the first public singing of “Vande Mataram” by Rabindranath Tagore in 1896. She pointed out that PM Modi avoided mentioning it was a Congress gathering at that time. By omitting this, she argued, the PM tried to rewrite history for political gain.
Priyanka Gandhi urged the House to compile a list of the errors of leaders whom BJP targets now — including the legacy of Nehru and Congress. She demanded that instead of claiming heritage selectively, the government should account for mistakes before levelling charges. Her call was for transparency and honest national debate.
Gandhi reiterated Congress’s commitment to national service, not electoral gains. She reassured that no matter how many elections the party loses, it will keep fighting for justice, truth and inclusive politics. To her, history should neither be manipulated nor be a tool for polarization.
The fiery exchange has raised the temperature in Parliament. With elections nearing in several states, this debate may shape narratives. Congress appears ready for a long political fight. BJP must decide if it will respond or let this challenge simmer. The coming days in Parliament will be closely watched for more sparks.
