Mumbai: A major tragedy unfolded near Pune when a car got trapped between two huge container trucks. The collision caused a massive fire that quickly spread across the vehicles. The flames grew so strong that the car was completely destroyed in minutes. People nearby tried to help, but the heat pushed them back. Fire teams reached fast, yet the damage had already become severe. Eight people inside the car died from burns and injuries. The shocking scene left the entire area shaken.
The accident took place on the Mumbai–Bengaluru Highway, one of the busiest stretches in the region. Witnesses said the speeding trucks collided suddenly on the Navale Bridge. The force of the impact crushed the small car between them. A spark turned into a fire almost instantly. Thick black smoke covered the bridge and halted traffic. People recorded videos while firefighters worked to control the blaze. The early visuals showed how quickly the tragedy unfolded.
Police confirmed that eight people lost their lives in the burning car. Several others were injured in the crash and taken to nearby hospitals. Officials said some victims were pulled out just in time. Doctors are now treating them for burns and fractures. A few of the injured remain in critical condition. Police teams have informed families and started formal identification. The loss of life has left the city deeply disturbed.
Initial reports suggest that the trucks were carrying heavy goods, which increased the impact of the crash. One truck tilted after losing control and hit the car from behind. The second truck came at high speed and rammed into both vehicles. Fuel tanks burst, causing a major fire. Flames travelled fast because of the load inside the trucks. The burning goods created large explosions repeatedly. Fire crews struggled but managed to control the blaze after long effort.
Locals say the Navale Bridge area has seen many accidents before. They blame overspeeding, heavy truck movement and poor lane discipline for the rising danger. Drivers often misjudge turns and lose balance on the slope. Police have installed signs, but many ignore them while driving. Traffic experts say stricter monitoring is needed. CCTV footage from the bridge will be reviewed by authorities. The repeated crashes have raised questions about road safety in Pune.
The moment police received the call, teams rushed to the spot with emergency vehicles. They blocked the stretch to stop more accidents. Fire engines arrived soon after and began spraying water to cool the vehicles. Officers helped injured people reach hospitals quickly. A crane was brought in to remove the burnt trucks and car. The clean-up took several hours because melted parts were stuck to the road. Police later detained one of the truck drivers for questioning.
Officials revealed that a separate accident had occurred earlier in the morning near the same area. A truck carrying tiles reportedly lost control at high speed. It hit a dumper and two cars before stopping. Those vehicles were damaged, but no major fire broke out at that time. Drivers in the area say the road has become unpredictable. The two crashes on the same day highlight serious safety problems. Authorities are now planning strict steps to prevent future disasters.
