Punjab News: The death of Aqil Akhtar, son of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa, has shaken Punjab and Haryana. On October 16, Aqil was found unconscious at his Sector-4 residence in Mansa Devi Complex and rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Initially, police saw no foul play, but the case took a sharp turn the next day when old social media posts surfaced, pointing fingers at his own family.

Social Media Post Raises Alarm

On October 17, Malerkotla resident Shamshudeen Chaudhary filed a complaint. He submitted Aqil’s August post and diary screenshot, in which Aqil expressed fear for his life. He accused his father, mother, and sister of conspiring against him. With this evidence, police registered an FIR under murder and conspiracy charges, changing the entire direction of the investigation.

FIR Alleges Shocking Family Secrets

The FIR claimed Aqil had discovered illicit relations between his father and wife. It further alleged his mother and sister plotted to either kill him or trap him in false cases. Aqil left behind his wife and two young children. These revelations have sent shockwaves across political and police circles.

Former DGP Denies Charges

Mustafa strongly dismissed the accusations. He said registration of an FIR doesn’t prove guilt and insisted the truth would soon come out. According to him, Aqil was mentally unstable and addicted to drugs. Mustafa stated his son had repeatedly been admitted to rehabilitation centers. He called the FIR a product of “dirty politics and cheap thinking.”

Addiction and Illness Shadowed Life

Mustafa further revealed Aqil had been struggling for years. In 2008, he reportedly consumed acid, damaging his organs. Last year, he turned to stronger drugs like ‘ice.’ His erratic behavior often forced police visits to their home. Despite completing his law degree recently, Aqil’s condition worsened under the weight of addiction and illness.

SIT to Probe Allegations

Taking the matter seriously, Haryana Police formed a five-member Special Investigation Team under an ACP’s supervision. DCP Srishti Gupta assured the investigation would remain unbiased, ensuring no innocent suffers and no guilty escapes. Complainant Chaudhary urged police to examine Aqil’s videos, digital records, call data, and post-mortem report to uncover the truth behind the suspicious death.

Case Takes Political Turn

The case has spilled into the political arena. Complainant Chaudhary was once linked with Shiromani Akali Dal and later joined AAP MLA Jamil Ur Rahman. Aqil’s mother, Razia Sultana, is a three-time MLA from Malerkotla. Mustafa, after retiring in 2021, joined the Congress. With murder allegations tied to such a high-profile family, the case has become a stormy mix of politics, tragedy, and suspicion.
