National News: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government has unitedly turned this difficult disaster into a campaign of relief and rehabilitation for the public. The Chief Minister himself is reviewing the ground situation in the flood-affected areas, while the entire cabinet and administrative staff are handling the front round the clock. Chief Minister Mann reached the flood-affected villages of Gurdaspur and Pathankot and not only met the victims, but also assured every family that the Punjab government will provide them relief in every situation. He instructed the officials that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated.
The Mann government has given top priority to flood relief work and cancelled the leaves of all officers and employees. Cabinet ministers have been entrusted with the responsibility to monitor the situation by staying in the field and maintain direct communication with the public. Taking a historic step, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also dedicated his personal helicopter for relief work. This helicopter is being used to transport people stranded in flood-affected areas to safe places.
Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak also visited the affected villages and distributed relief material. All units, including Army, BSF, NDRF and SDRF, are engaged in this operation.
Due to 1,10,000 cusecs of water released from Ranjit Sagar Dam, the water level of the Ravi River increased, due to which many villages were affected. But due to administrative promptness, dozens of families from Gurdaspur and Pathankot were evacuated safely. The state government has started relief camps and langar service in the affected villages. Food arrangements have been made in the schools of Narnot Jaimal Singh and Taragarh, while many gurudwaras and villages have been converted into relief centers.
Chief Minister Mann has announced that farmers and affected families will be given full compensation after the special Girdawari. The government's stand is clear that no matter how big the crisis, the Punjab government will remain fully dedicated to the service of the people. The Chief Minister appealed to the people not to pay heed to rumours and stay away from the banks of rivers and streams. He reiterated that this is not the time for politics but for service, and the Punjab government is fulfilling this duty of service with full devotion.
