Punjab: Punjab has achieved a robust 21.51 percent increase in net GST collections by October 2025. In October alone, the increase was 14.46 percent. This information was provided by Punjab Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister, Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, in a press release. The minister said that despite widespread floods and recent revisions to tax rates under GST 2.0, the state has demonstrated excellent fiscal resilience and administrative efficiency.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that Punjab collected ₹15,683.59 crore in net GST from April to October 2025, compared to ₹12,907.31 crore in the same period last fiscal year. This marked a significant increase of ₹2,776 crore in the state's GST revenue. Growth in the same period in fiscal year 2024-25 was only 3.8 percent, significantly lower than this year's performance.
Punjab's net GST collections stood at ₹2,359.16 crore in October 2025, compared to ₹2,061.23 crore in October 2024. This increase of ₹298 crore reflects the state's continued economic momentum and improved tax collections. The Finance Minister said this increase came after the implementation of GST 2.0 reforms, which reduced several tax rates.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that despite challenges such as tax rate cuts and severe floods, Punjab's GST revenue has increased significantly. This reflects the success of improved tax compliance, anti-evasion initiatives, and digital monitoring systems. Punjab's 21.5 percent growth rate far exceeds the national average of 7 percent, making it one of the best-performing states in North India.
The Finance Minister stated that the post-settlement figures for SGST and IGST through October 2025 confirm the state's fiscal strength. Punjab's overall growth rate exceeded all neighboring states except Haryana. He also noted that this performance, despite nearly half of the state's districts being affected by floods, reflects the resilience of the state's trade and industry.
Harpal Singh Cheema attributed this achievement to the Excise and Taxation Department's data analytics capabilities, digital integration, stringent field enforcement, and strategic approach. He said the department will simplify compliance for honest taxpayers, crack down on tax evasion, and advance Punjab's economic revival through transparent and efficient tax administration.
