National News: Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi once again spoke about the 1984 anti -Sikh riots. He said that what happened in that era was completely wrong and he is ready to take responsibility for every mistake in the history of Congress. This statement was made by Rahul in a dialogue session held on 21 April 2025 at Brown University in the US. The video of this program recently appeared on social media, which made a lot of headlines.

The question opened a sensitive issue

At the Watson Institute of Brown University, a Sikh student asked Rahul what steps he was taking for better coordination with the Sikh community. The student cited his previous visit to America, where Rahul said that he is fighting for an India where Sikhs can live their turban and religious identity with freedom.

Rahul's clear answer

Rahul said in response, "I believe that there is no such thing as fear in the Sikh community. I just said that we want India where no one has to express his religious identity? Talking about the Congress, the party made many mistakes, especially when I was not there. But I will not move away from taking responsibility for every wrong step of the party."

Referring to the 1984 riots, he said, "I have said on many occasions that what happened in the 80s was absolutely wrong. I have visited the Golden Temple and my relationship with the Sikh community is very intimate and respectable."

Why is this statement important?

The 1984 riots are recorded as a painful event in the history of India, and the Congress has faced criticism from time to time on the issue. This statement of Rahul, in which he talked about taking responsibility by accepting mistakes, is considered an important step towards restoration of trust with the Sikh community.

Stir on social media

On social Media Some praised Rahul's honesty and openness, while some saw it as a political bet. However, this statement clearly reflects their relationship with the Sikh community and their thinking on the complex questions of the Congress's past.
