Rahul Gandhi Leads Vote Chori Protest: Opposition Plans March to President’s House (X.com)
New Delhi: Opposition alliance INDIA continues to protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleging alleged vote theft. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is preparing to protest once again with opposition MPs on Friday. The opposition parties want to take out a march from the Parliament House complex to Rashtrapati Bhavan. Along with this, there is a plan to meet President Draupadi Murmu and raise the issue of alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
The opposition alliance wishes to convey to President Draupadi Murmu its concerns regarding alleged vote theft and the SIR process. The opposition alleges that the democratic process may be affected due to irregularities in the voter list. However, the stand of the concerned authorities on these allegations and the findings of the official investigation will also be important.
Opposition leaders have sought time to meet the President. According to reports, requests in this regard had been sent earlier also, but the appointment was not confirmed.
Rahul Gandhi has contacted several senior leaders of the INDIA alliance to strengthen opposition unity. According to the report, many leaders including Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav and Uddhav Thackeray have been requested to reach Delhi.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee had also talked about being called to discuss the issue of alleged vote theft before coming to Delhi. Opposition parties want to make a joint strategy on this issue and present their demands before the government and the Election Commission.
Opposition MPs were reportedly planning to hold a meeting in the central hall of the Constituent Assembly. After this, a march to Rashtrapati Bhavan and a protest were to be considered. The opposition says that if time is not available to meet the president, then the further strategy will be decided.
However, permission for the march, its actual route and official confirmation of the status of the event are required.
The opposition alliance is demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from the post. Also, investigation into alleged irregularities in the SIR process and answers are being sought on questions related to the voter list.
This issue has become politically important, as the opposition is linking it to electoral transparency. On the other hand, the veracity of the allegations should be assessed on the basis of official facts and the responses of the concerned institutions.
At present, everyone's eyes are on the meeting of opposition leaders, the response from Rashtrapati Bhavan and the further protests.
