Who Is P.C. Mohan? BJP MP Accused by Rahul Gandhi of ‘Vote Theft’ in Bengaluru Central (Image Source: PTI/PC Mohan)
Since the Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been accusing the BJP of electoral manipulation. He has now dropped his 'atom bomb' on the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha seat. Citing this constituency, Rahul Gandhi has made a serious allegation of "vote theft". In the previous elections, BJP candidate P.C. Mohan won from this Karnataka seat, marking his fourth consecutive victory. The Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha seat was created after the delimitation process in 2008. Since then, P.C. Mohan has maintained his stronghold on this seat. Except for the first election in 2009, he has secured more than 50 per cent of the votes in every contest.
Rahul Gandhi, in a significant claim regarding voter fraud, alleged that the Congress lost the Bengaluru Central seat to the BJP by a margin of less than 3 per cent. He alleged that there were fake voters and duplicate voting in the constituency. The Election Commission has responded to these claims made by the Leader of the Opposition, asking for the allegations to be submitted in the form of an affidavit. Rahul Gandhi replied, saying, “What I say to the people is my word—consider that as an oath.” According to Gandhi, the vote margin between Congress and BJP on this seat was just 2.58 per cent.
After winning from Bengaluru Central again, P. Chikkamuni Mohan (P.C. Mohan) has entered the Lok Sabha for the fourth time. He is 62 years old and a resident of Bengaluru. Married in 1991, P.C. Mohan is an OBC leader and has previously led the OBC cell of the BJP in Karnataka. Apart from his wife, he has one son and one daughter in his family. Mohan has been associated with the BJP for over two decades. Besides being a four-time MP, he has also been elected twice to the Karnataka Assembly from the Chickpet constituency.
P.C. Mohan is well-known for his efforts in expanding the metro rail network in Bengaluru. As a Member of Parliament, he actively pushed for metro development in Karnataka's capital. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, when he secured his fourth victory, there were 23 other candidates in the fray. In a direct contest, he defeated Congress leader Mansoor Ali Khan.
