New Delhi: In response to a violent incident in Udaipur, the Rajasthan Education Department has issued new guidelines prohibiting students from carrying sharp-edged instruments such as knives or scissors to schools. This decision comes after a Class 10 student at a government school attacked a classmate with a knife, resulting in severe injuries and sparking unrest in the city on Friday.The new guidelines mandate that teachers regularly check students school bags to ensure no prohibited items are being brought onto school premises. Any violation of these rules will result in disciplinary action against the offending students. Ashish Modi, Director of the Secondary Education Department, emphasized that schools should be safe havens where children can learn without fear. He added, “Schools are places for education, and it is our duty to ensure a violence-free environment for all students.” The directive will be prominently displayed on school notice boards and reinforced during daily prayer assemblies.Udaipur clash raises uproarThe Udaipur incident led to widespread tension in the city, with reports of arson and clashes. Following the stabbing, an angry mob set several vehicles on fire, and incidents of stone-pelting were reported in certain areas. Law enforcement had to be deployed in large numbers to restore order, and a lathi charge was used to disperse the crowds. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha were also enforced to maintain peace.District Education Officer Lokesh Bharti confirmed that the altercation involved two 15-year-old students from different communities. The confrontation escalated into violence during post-lunch hours when one of the students stabbed the other in the thigh with a knife. Authorities are investigating the incident as they work to ensure such episodes do not recur.
