New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the names of 11 candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections across five states and a by-election in one state. The list includes Satish Poonia from Rajasthan and Tarun Chugh from Madhya Pradesh.
In addition to Tarun Chugh, the BJP has also fielded Rajneesh Agrawal from Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, from Gujarat, the party has fielded four candidates. These include Rajubhai Shukla, Mukeshbhai Rathwa, Mansinh Parmar, and Jitendra Meghjibhai Kanjariya.
Apart from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, the names of candidates have also been announced for Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. While Sharda Devi has received the ticket from Manipur, Tai Tagak has been fielded from Arunachal Pradesh. In addition to the Rajya Sabha elections taking place in these five states, a Rajya Sabha by-election is also scheduled in Odisha. From there, the BJP has given the ticket to Debasish Samantaray.
The victory of the BJP candidates in Gujarat is considered a foregone conclusion. In fact, Gujarat has a total of 182 Legislative Assembly seats. Of these, the BJP holds 161 seats. The Congress secured victory in 12 Assembly constituencies, while AAP has legislators in four constituencies. Given this scenario, it is widely believed that the BJP will comfortably win all four of these Rajya Sabha seats. The elections for these four seats are scheduled for June 18, and the deadline for filing nominations is June 8.
