Republic Day 2025: On January 26, 2025, the Central Government of India proudly announced the recipients of the prestigious Padma Awards. These awards are among the highest civilian honors in India, recognizing exceptional contributions across various fields.
Overview of the Padma Awards
The Padma Awards are conferred annually on the eve of Republic Day and are divided into three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. The Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, while the Padma Bhushan recognizes distinguished service of a higher order. The Padma Shri is awarded for distinguished service in any field involving public service.The awards aim to celebrate achievements that contribute to society and are based on recommendations made by the Padma Awards Committee, which is appointed by the Prime Minister each year.
2025 Award Recipients
This year, the government has honored a total of 139 individuals with these prestigious awards: 7 recipients received the Padma Vibhushan, 19 were awarded the Padma Bhushan, and 113 were recognized with the Padma Shri. The President of India will confer these awards during a ceremonial function at Rashtrapati Bhawan, typically held in March or April.
