During the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) centenary celebrations in Delhi, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said that every family in India should have three children to maintain a healthy population. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, he referred to the country’s fertility rate of 2.1 and said experts believe communities with low birth rates gradually decline. Bhagwat added that this trend is being seen in many countries and emphasized the need to keep the birth rate above three.

Having 3 Children Will Keep You Healthy

Mohan Bhagwat said, "Doctors have told me that getting married at the right time and having three children keeps both parents and children healthy. In families with three siblings, they learn to control their ego, and there are no future disputes in their families. This is what doctors have said… The population of our country recommends a fertility rate of 2.1, which is reasonable on average, but you can never have 0.1 of a child. In mathematics, 2.1 means 2, but when it comes to births, it actually means 3." He said, therefore, every parent should have three children in the interest of the nation. He further said, "There is also a concern. Population can be a blessing, but it can also be a burden because you have to feed everyone. That is why a population policy has been formulated. Therefore, to ensure that population is both controlled and adequate, every family should have three children.

Religious Conversion a Matter of Concern

On demographic change, the RSS chief said that it is a matter of concern and that the main reason for population control is religious conversion.
