External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted the strategic wisdom of Indian epics. He said the Ramayana is often viewed only as a religious story. In reality, it carries deep lessons in diplomacy. Hanuman’s role reflects intelligent statecraft. He worked through information, dialogue, and trust. Jaishankar said this thinking remains relevant today. India’s foreign policy also draws inspiration from such ideas.
Jaishankar explained Hanuman was not sent to Lanka for war. His primary mission was intelligence gathering. Hanuman successfully reached Sita. He boosted her morale during captivity. He carefully assessed the situation in Lanka. He returned with a clear and accurate report. This, Jaishankar said, defines true diplomacy.
Jaishankar described Vibhishan as a good man. He said Vibhishan was trapped in the wrong company. Hanuman recognized his potential. He understood Vibhishan could join the right side. Through encouragement and trust, this shift happened. Vibhishan eventually supported Rama. Jaishankar called this a classic diplomatic success.
Jaishankar said the Mahabharata is usually linked with power and conflict. The Ramayana is often seen as emotional storytelling. However, it contains planning and negotiation. It teaches timing and patience. It shows how to choose allies. It explains how to understand opponents. These are core principles of diplomacy.
Jaishankar said India is taken far more seriously today. The global perception is much more positive. India’s national brand has strengthened. Indians are seen as hardworking abroad. India has built a strong technology identity. Family-centered values are also appreciated. This shift cannot be ignored.
Jaishankar said multiple power centers have emerged globally. No single nation can dominate all issues now. Economic and political balances are shifting. India is part of this transformation. Policies today require careful thinking. Dialogue has become more important. Diplomacy is more critical than ever.
Jaishankar said economy alone is not enough. Human resources are the biggest strength. India needs teachers along with engineers. Artists are as important as doctors. Researchers and athletes also matter. Higher education institutions are expanding. This reflects preparation for the future.
