Delhi Police Arrests Samir Modi in Sexual Assault Case; Brother of Fugitive Lalit Modi

Samir Modi arrested at Delhi Airport: Businessman Samir Modi was arrested by Delhi Police on Thursday on charges of sexual harassment. Samir is the younger brother of former IPL chairman and fugitive Lalit Modi. According to sources, Samir Modi returned to IGI Airport around 10 a.m. on Thursday. Immigration officials informed the police, and he was immediately detained. An FIR was filed against him last month. Samir was abroad at the time. A lookout circular was also issued against him.

Police remanded Samir to one-day police custody. Officials say they need to take him to the scene of the incident and seize his mobile phone. Police sought a three-day remand from the court. Samir's lawyer says his client is innocent and has been framed.

Allegations in the FIR

The complaint was filed in New Friends Colony, and the case is being investigated by DCP Hemant Tiwari. The complaint claims that Samir sexually harassed the victim multiple times by falsely promising her a promotion and a better job. It is alleged that these incidents took place at his home, office, and hotels.

Family and Business Disputes

Samir and his family have also been involved in legal disputes related to the company. The dispute stems from disagreements over the implementation of the late KK Modi's trust deed. Samir alleges that his mother, Bina Modi, is not following the terms of the trust deed, particularly in the distribution of shares and funds.

This dispute has now escalated into a boardroom battle. Samir alleges that he is being prevented from attending company meetings and that attempts are being made to curtail his board position. Godfrey Phillips, a company associated with Samir, manufactures cigarette brands such as Four Square and Red & White.

Defamation Case

Last month, the Sessions Court summoned Samir in a defamation case. Complainants Nirmala Bagri and Atul Gupta claim that certain statements made by Samir in the media last year were damaging to their reputations.

In accordance with Supreme Court directives, the identity of the victim has been kept confidential.
