India calls out Colombia’s misplaced sympathy: Shashi Tharoor leads global effort to expose Pakistan

In the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 innocent lives, India has launched a full-scale global diplomatic outreach to expose Pakistan’s continued sheltering of terror outfits. One of the key voices leading this international mission is Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who, along with an all-party delegation, has sharply criticized the Colombian government for expressing condolences to Pakistan after India’s retaliatory strikes instead of standing with the victims of terrorism.

Tharoor slams Colombia’s condolences to Pakistan

While on an official visit to Colombia, Tharoor voiced his displeasure at Bogotá’s initial response. "We are somewhat disappointed that instead of sympathizing with those affected by terror, the Colombian statement expressed sorrow over damage in Pakistan. Perhaps there was a lack of clarity about the context," Tharoor said, striking a firm yet diplomatic tone.

No equivalence between terror and self-defence

The Indian delegation reminded Colombian leaders that India’s military actions were not acts of aggression, but measured responses to repeated terror strikes from across the border. "There can be no equivalence between terrorists and their victims." Between those who send drones and bombs and those who defend their homes. Colombia, a nation that has itself suffered at the hands of terrorism, should understand this reality better than most,” Tharoor emphasized.

Rare unity across Indian political lines

India's initiative comes as part of an extensive campaign of seven delegations sent to 33 nations with the purpose of bringing to the fore the risks of sheltering extremist forces and demanding responsibility from nations like Pakistan. The delegation visiting Colombia also includes MPs and leaders from various Indian political parties a rare show of unity on foreign policy. Leaders from BJP, Shiv Sena, TDP, JMM, and seasoned diplomats are part of this team.

No mediation, only a message of self-defence

Responding to queries regarding mediation, Tharoor made clear India's position: "We are not interested in war.
Our goal is simple  self-defence. Several nations, including France, the UAE, and the U.S., have reached out. But this was not mediation. We simply stated: If they stop, we stop."

India responds to Pahalgam with measured force

The Pahalgam attack led to a fierce military response from India, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and PoK.Pakistan responded with missile and drone attacks, which were defused. A ceasefire was agreed upon after talks between the two nations’ DGMOs on May 10.

This diplomatic effort is not just about managing fallout it’s a calculated attempt to reframe the global narrative around terrorism, putting pressure on countries that provide safe havens to extremists. For India, the message is loud and clear: the world must stop treating terrorism with selective sympathy.
