Shehzad Poonawala Ready to Join Congress, Sets Conditions After Quitting BJP (ANI)
New Delhi: Shehzad Poonawala, who has resigned from BJP, has given such a statement regarding his return to Congress, which has intensified discussions about his next political innings. Poonawala said that if the current role of the Gandhi family in Congress ends and the party apologises on some issues related to Jawaharlal Nehru's tenure, he may consider returning to Congress. However, at present he has not made any formal announcement about joining Congress.
Shahzad did not say yes or no directly. He put forward two big conditions. First, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will have to step down from the leadership of Congress. Secondly, the party will have to publicly apologise on some issues related to Jawaharlal Nehru's tenure. He says that only if the Congress changes its old political stance can the possibility of a comeback be considered.
Poonawalla had recently resigned from all party posts along with primary membership of BJP. He cited personal and financial reasons behind his resignation. He said that it was becoming difficult to handle the financial responsibilities of the family while being in politics. For this reason he has decided to go to the private sector for now.
According to Poonawala, this decision was not taken suddenly. He said that he had been thinking about the option of exiting politics since 2024. It was only after much deliberation that he took the step of leaving the party.
Despite leaving the party, Poonawala has expressed his support towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ideology of BJP. He says that separation from BJP does not mean that his political thinking has changed. Praising the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, he said that he is with him ideologically.
Shehzad Poonawala's political background is associated with Congress. While in Congress, he also worked in Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee. Later he left Congress and joined BJP. After joining BJP, he became one of the major spokespersons of the party and continued to appear in television debates and present the party's side on political issues.
At present the picture regarding this is not clear. Poonawala has not presented his comeback as an announcement but has expressed the possibility with a condition. On the other hand, after resigning from BJP, he has talked about going to private sector. In such a situation, an eye is being kept on what will be his next step. However, the discussion of his possible return to Congress has definitely sparked a new debate in political circles.
